Dinner at the Lowbrow

Caramel Creme Pie
Chocolate Stout Cake
Dale and I had dinner tonight at the Lowbrow which is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. We both ordered the pasta special which was penne pasta with bolognese sauce.  For dessert I had the chocolate stout cake (my favorite) and Dale had the caramel creme pie (delicious - he let me try it).

Yesterday Was Super Bowl Sunday

I know most of our fellow Americans would find us strange, but Dale and I have no interest in the watching the Super Bowl. We watched Downton Abbey instead. I know it's the biggest eating day of the year second only to Thanksgiving, but the most exciting thing we ate was some sea salt and caramel chocolate cake from, where else, Kowalski's.

Oh, Happy Day

Today the Minnesota House approves the gay marriage bill in a 75-59 vote! Dale and I went to the Lowbrow to celebrate. That place is fast becoming one of my favorite restaurants.  We both had the rigatoni with spinach and broccoli in cream sauce. So delicious. Dale had an ice cream sandwich for dessert which was really vanilla ice cream between two of the most wonderful chocolate chip cookies I've ever had! I had the chocolate stout cake. As the name suggests, it was made with Guiness beer which kept the cake extra moist. It had a cream cheese frosting as well.

Last Night's Dinner - Baked Rigatoni

Dale and I were in great need of comfort food last night.  We turned to our old standby of baked rigatoni.  Dale had chocolate cake for dessert with a chocolate ganache frosting.  I had chocolate with a sea salt and caramel frosting.  I never would have thought salty frosting would work. This worked.

Chocolate Cake

I went to lunch at IKEA the other day. I had the Swedish meatballs and then for dessert had their chocolate cake. I love chocolate cake.

Holiday Entertaining

Two couples that we know from the gym came over for dinner last night. Michelle, who teaches a spin class that Dale takes, and her husband Steve, along with Fred, who also takes the spin class, and his wife Linda arrived around 6:30. Appetizers included cheese, tapanade and crackers. Everyone drank wine except Steve and me who had Tanqueray gin martinis [Note to self: Steve loves Hendricks].

Dale made rigatoni and green beans amandine. Fred and Linda brought the most divine chocolate cake from Cafe Latte in St. Paul (see above photo).

It was a lovely group of people and a good time was had by all.
